Unfortunately, procrastination is a destructive trait. When we put off things that we know we need to do, we wind up feeling worse than if we just sat down to do them in the first place. It should come as no surprise, then, that most successful people have kicked this habit to the curb. You can kick this habit too! If you want to stop procrastinating and start getting ahead in life, here are four practical steps.
Step #1: Figure Out What Is Valuable To You
Sometimes procrastination can be our minds telling us that this activity doesn’t align with our overall goals. Maybe you’re putting off that meeting with your employer because you’re too busy wanting to be an entrepreneur! Find a quiet space and contemplate your goals and aspirations.
Step #2: Track Your Habits
Track your habits in a spreadsheet or an app. Put in the practices that you want to have (e.g., spend two hours per night building the business). Then use the app or spreadsheet to keep track of these habits to ensure you develop them as a routine. One of the biggest reasons why people procrastinate is that they haven’t developed the habit of doing the work with consistency. By tracking your habits, you’ll improve that skill.
Step #3: Create Daily Overviews
At the beginning of each day, create an overview of what you want to accomplish. Be realistic and develop the habit of achieving everything in your to do list. By focusing on your daily plan, you can also help break down your goals into smaller sub goals, which you can gain satisfaction from achieving every day.
